Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) was a Dutch history and portrait painter. His paintings are full of domesticated animals or animals from outside Europe. Through them, he critically questioned the relationship between animals and humans.

Jan Blanc, professor of modern art history at the University of Geneva (Switzerland), is a specialist in Northern European art of the 17th and 18th centuries.
