Lunch on the Grass in 1900 costumes

22 September 2024

Named after one of Manet's famous paintings, and used by the film-maker Jean Renoir in his film, ‘Le déjeuner sur l'herbe’ is being repeated this year in the grounds of the Domaine Renoir during the European Heritage Days.

It's a convivial occasion, where everyone is invited to take part in period costume (from around 1900) and bring their own picnic, which will also be decked out in the finery of yesteryear.
So no coolers, even for drinks (unless they're wrapped in wicker or in wicker trunks), and no pets either. And to complete the picture, don't forget the white or checked tablecloth (or, failing that, a white sheet).
