Dom Juan – Emmanuel Daumas

Theatre

From 13 to 16 June 2023

Back to the essence of the play as a theatre of trestles with this Dom Juan by Emmanuel Daumas. Five actors embrace all the grandeur of the myth of this libertine atheist who, at the centre of a world of lies and illusion, makes a bet on life.

Dom Juan, a great libertine lord, makes many conquests, abandons his wife Elvira, whom he has taken from the convent, and covets the peasant girl who has saved him from a shipwreck. He then conquers another peasant girl, constantly perjuring himself by promising marriage each time. Pursued by Elvira's brothers, who finally give up on avenging their sister's honour, and always flanked by his valet Sganarelle, whom he never ceases to test, he goes so far as to defy the memory of the commander, inviting his statue to dinner. The visitors he receives afterwards, his father whose values he mocks, his wife, a strange spectre, will try in vain to convert him to good. But Dom Juan is on the road to perdition and his end is inevitable.
