Exposition Images en mouvement

From 03 February to 28 April 2024

The next exhibition at the Musée de Vence, from February 3 to April 28, 2024, "Images en mouvement" will bring together Fernand Léger, Jacques Villeglé, Jérôme Allavena, Vincent Broquaire, Boris Labbé and Jeanne Susplugas.

No sooner had cinema been invented, at the very end of the 19th century, than a number of visual artists aspired to experiment with its potential. Curious to go beyond the static nature of the image, they seized on everything that allowed them to set it in motion. A whole production of animated films, videos and installations has developed over time, taking into account the technical and technological advances of a world in perpetual transformation.

Entitled "Images en mouvement" ("Images in motion"), the exhibition we have devised for the Musée de Vence brings together different experiments in contemporary moving images, under the aegis of historic figures such as Fernand Léger and the Hains-Villeglé duo. In turn, it calls on film editing, the cobbled-together invention of an unusual device, the use of computers and, finally, virtual reality. A synthetic and demonstrative way of asserting the possibility of "image movement" - the title of a cult exhibition held at the Centre Pompidou a few years ago. Philippe Piguet, exhibition curator.
