Lecture: The mandolin at the heart of cubism
In the early cubist works of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, the guitar and the mandolin occupy a central place, symbolizing both the break with traditional perspective and the exploration of the decomposition of forms. These instruments, often represented in fragments and from different angles, embody the desire to capture the object in its multiplicity, while introducing the notion of simultaneity. They become privileged objects for experimenting with the reduction of volumes and surfaces, while anchoring cubism in a tactile and sonic dimension. These works mark the interaction between painting and music, redefining the limits of visual art.
