European Heritage Days : Cagnes-sur-Mer

From 21 to 22 September 2024

Every third weekend in September, young and old alike can visit tens of thousands of monuments, some of which are closed to the public for the rest of the year.

Like a botanist, you'll learn to observe and identify the flora of the Renoir garden with a view to creating a watercolour herbarium.

A souvenir workshop to mark the departure of Pierre-Auguste Renoir's work from the Musée Renoir: Les Cariatides.
Children will transform the Caryatids painting by using fabrics, objects, etc. to create their own scenes. The painting will be transformed into a contemporary photograph to bring out its strong lines and materiality, creating a new, unique, graphic and colourful work.

Giant Cluédo

Investigation in the garden of the Musée Renoir: a terrible tragedy has taken place at the Domaine des Collettes, home of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir.

The background: in 1916, Richard Guino, the sculptor and collaborator of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir, was found murdered. Who could have committed such a crime? It's up to you to find out: put your detective skills to good use and solve the mystery!

This fun experience will allow you to discover this unique place where the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir lived with his family.

Course of the game: During the investigation, families will have to look for clues to find the murderer, the scene of the crime and the weapon used.

Ages 8 and up. Free admission.

From his childhood and adolescence to his beginnings in silent and talking films, and including the evolution of the techniques that fascinated him, this talk pays tribute to Jean Renoir, offering a panoramic view of his life through books and interviews.

The South of France ‘Heritage routes, networks and connections’ and ‘Maritime heritage

To mark the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, this collection highlights the masterpieces and great artists of this movement, exploring the industrial revolution and its impact on the history of art. Virtual reality film ‘L'obsession des Nymphéas de Monet’: immerse yourself in a whirlwind of colours.

Live lecture: CLAUDE MONET (1840 - 1926)
Claude Monet painted over five thousand pictures in sixty years. After taking part in the Impressionist adventure, he distanced himself and invented a principle of painting that would revolutionise 20th-century pictorial art: the series. He devoted the last thirty years of his life to these multiple representations of the same subject, which in itself had become secondary.
1h30 live lecture, followed by 30mn discussion with the lecturer.

Collection: Heritage of routes, networks and connections and maritime.
Through a selection of artistic works, it reveals how trade routes, transport networks and cultural exchanges have shaped our history and our art. By highlighting the influence of maritime heritage on artistic creation, this collection illustrates how travel, exchange and exploration have inspired and enriched artists over the centuries.

Take a 360° tour of the building's history, from the Gare d'Orsay, built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition, to its restoration and conversion into a museum in 1986.
