Argan, a widower and hypochondriac, is remarried with Béline who pretends to be attentive to her care but only hopes for her husband's death to inherit. He endures bloodletting, purges and many other remedies prescribed by doctors anxious to please him in his lucubrations... and especially to receive their pensions!
Angélique, Argan's daughter, loves Cléante to the chagrin of her father. The latter prefers to marry her to Thomas Diafoirus, son of a good family and above all a doctor... But will he please the young girl?
Toinette, the faithful servant, will get caught up in the game of some... and others!!!
