US Cagnes Triathlon presents its new event: a triathlon unique in France, in relay, in teams of 4, on the exceptional site of the Côte d'Azur racecourse in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Programme & Course - The 8 Hours of the Racecourse
12 noon, start: from the beach at the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse.
One swimmer from each team jumps into the water to complete the 400m swimming loop. At the end of the loop, the swimmer gets out of the water and passes in front of the relay zone, where he or she can either start a new lap or hand over to a member of his or her team, passing on the relay bracelet worn on the wrist.
The swim loops continue until 2pm. The laps are counted using the timing wristband worn on each participant's ankle. Each lap earns the team 8 points. (4 points per lap for cycling, 8 points per lap for running)
At 2 p.m., a signal indicates the end of the swim: the swimmers finish the lap they have started, then give their relay wristband to a runner in their team, who will set off for the bike zone, located 900m from the beach.
The wristband is passed on to the team's 1st relay cyclist, who sets off on a 3,400m loop around the racecourse on a road closed to traffic.
At the end of this 1st lap, the relay rider can again hand over to a member of his or her team, or continue on to another lap on the bike.
The cycling loops continue until 6 p.m., with each lap passing in front of the racecourse grandstands where the public cheers on the athletes.
6pm, time for the run: the loop is 1,800m, with a passage in front of the grandstands and a loop on the trotting track of the Cagnes-sur-Mer racecourse.
At 8pm, the last lap is announced, the runners on the course finish their lap and cross the finish line!
Then, to symbolise the spirit of the 8 Hours of the Racecourse, all the teams are invited to cross the finish line together to the applause of the public!
8.30 p.m., prize-giving ceremony: the women's team with the most points wins, as do the best mixed team and the best men's team, as well as the most represented clubs/companies/universities!
Some performances will also be honoured - we'll let you in on the surprise!
This extraordinary sporting day will end with a festive moment for the athletes and the public in front of the racecourse grandstands.
