Matinale – Au fil de l’or et Louvre couture

19 April 2025

Vu pas vu vous propose "Au fil de l'Or" et "Louvre Couture", deux expositions parisiennes où l'art et la monde s'entremêlent. Cycle "ces expositions qui font événement".

Gold is a material that has been able to seduce humanity for more than five millennia already. A symbol of wealth, it is coveted by the noblest social classes who, in an ideal of aesthetics, will dress themselves in it thanks to the development of sophisticated artisanal techniques throughout the centuries.

The exhibition "Au fil de L'or, l'art de se vêtir de l'Orient au Soleil-Lvant" at the Quai Branly is a path traced chronologically between the different regions that have made gold a true clothing jewel: Maghreb, Middle East, or even Asia will be grouped in five rooms highlighting the taste for splendor of these peoples and their artistic refinement. Egyptian, Turkish or Chinese wedding dresses, Moroccan or Algerian ceremonial caftans, or Iraqi party costumes, these pieces invite you to travel through different cultural traditions.

The exhibition is also guided by some contemporary threads showing that gold continues to dazzle and seduce societies even today: Guo Pei, a Chinese fashion designer, will highlight exceptional pieces. To conclude on this alliance between the precious material and elegance, La Maison Lesage and its century-old experience will pay tribute to French embroidery.

At the same time, and since January 2025, fashion has been introduced to the Louvre Museum, tracing the history of fashion from the sixties to today. The exhibition "Louvre Couture. Objets d'art, objets de mode" at the Louvre Museum weaves the close links between decorative arts and fashion: from Cristobal Balenciaga to Iris van Herpen, 45 of the most prestigious interior design houses are lending some of their emblematic pieces in a historical way. Through this complicit alliance between the history of art and fashion, the exhibition offers a new way to explore the galleries of the Louvre with an unprecedented bias. Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Dior and Jean Paul Gauthier invite you to a discovery that is both artistic and historical, modern and cultural, and highlight the inspirations that shaped their greatest masterpieces, giving fashion the prestige of parading in the largest museum in the world.
