Merlin le désenchanteur
Show
18 March 2026
With humor and in the spirit of the masked play of the commedia dell'arte, this creation, awarded at the Festival Scène d'Automne 2024, questions the myth of Merlin by seeking to observe it from an innovative prism.
The legend of Merlin has been the subject of numerous adaptations over the centuries. Alternately an advisor to King Arthur, a sort of whimsical Leonardo da Vinci in Disney's play, the son of the devil in Robert de Boron's medieval text, or a mad king fleeing into the forest for Geoffrey of Monmouth, Merlin is a familiar figure in our tales and legends.
Who is Merlin really? Who was he in his youth? Who is Gwenddydd, his twin sister whose existence was hidden? What if Merlin was simply a visionary scientist, preying on the credulity of the louts of his time while mastering the secrets of chemistry, physics, astronomy, and even meteorology before their time?
