Portrait de famille, une histoire des Atrides – Festival de Tragédies
Theatre
04 July 2025
Jean-François Sivadier brings to the stage his tragicomic rewriting of the legend of the Atrides, transforming this mythological story into a grand, joyful theatrical fresco.
Inspired by Euripides, Aeschylus, and Sophocles, he entrusts this terrible dramatic material to fourteen young actresses and actors from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris. His protagonists escape from classical texts to embody and resonate, today, this mythical and cursed family. In Family Portrait, a story of the Atrides, everything revolves around war. War between peoples, between men and gods, between family members. Greek mythology is an inexhaustible material and the occasion for a theater of excess, immoderation, cruelty, where comedy often meets tragedy. Here, we always have the choice of crying over the tragic fate of the protagonists or laughing at the triviality of the issues that led to the catastrophe...
The considerable and truly delirious material offered by Greek mythology provides the opportunity for a theater of variable geometry, where, in the eternal confrontation between men and gods, the fantastic, the political, the intimate and the universal, the plausible and the improbable, merge... Family Portrait is tailor-made material for a team of fourteen young actors and actresses, a chaotic project that playfully revisits a catalog of adult tales that never stops being written, like a painting eternally restarted and forever unfinished. According to Euripides, Aeschylus, Seneca, Sophocles
