Voyage dans les collections du Musée des Beaux-Arts Jules Chéret
Exhibition
From 02 December 2022 to 15 August 2023
New hanging
For the earliest periods (13th - 18th centuries), the aim is to discover the evolution of the representation of the Virgin in painting.
A selection of sculptures dating mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries invites us to take an interest in the drapery as a symbol or as a decorative effect and, more broadly, in the intention of realism which dictates the rendering of faces and postures.
The progressive changes in the artists' relationship to reality in the 19th century, which are reflected in the way they paint and sculpt, are then explored through the works of Marie Bashkirtseff, Louise Breslau, Gustave Courbet and Constant Troyon.
For the 20th century, works by Pierre Bonnard, Charles Camoin, Henri and Marthe Lebasque and Raoul Dufy make it possible to think about Modernity in the arts.
