June 23, 2023

Following the unveiling today by Paris 2024 of the first venues that will host the Olympic Torch Relay, the city of Nice is proud to have been chosen as the venue for the final stage of the celebrations on the Côte d’Azur.

The Olympic Flame will first be lit in Olympia on 16 April 2024, in accordance with ancient tradition. After a 12-day relay in Greece and a crossing of the Mediterranean aboard the famous three-masted ship, the Belem, it will officially arrive in France on 8 May 2024, heralding the return of the Games after a 100-year wait. This will mark the start of a non-stop celebration across France for more than two months, paving the way for the Games.

Nice, as host city for the 2024 Olympic Football Tournament with 6 football matches taking place at the Allianz Riviera stadium between 24 and 31 July 2024, will have the privilege of being one of the stopover cities on this journey across France on 18 June 2024, when the Olympic Flame arrives on the Côte d’Azur.

Christian ESTROSI, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Area, Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region: “The Olympic Flame in Nice on 18 June 2024 will be more than just a symbol. As the first stop on the final stretch to Paris, Nice will close the Relais des Océans before becoming the world capital of the oceans with the United Nations Ocean Summit in June 2025.

After passing through 6 other towns in the department, it will arrive in Nice where it will discover the Promenade des Anglais. A celebration site will be set up in the heart of the city so that the people of Nice can enjoy this great festival, at the very spot where the last relay runner will light the cauldron.

Sporting events organised in conjunction with Nice clubs (athletics, basketball, breakdance, skateboarding, judo, etc.) and in the presence of Nice’s great champions will be held from 3.30pm on the Quai des États-Unis to involve as many Nice residents as possible in this historic event.

In addition, during the Games, the city of Nice will be activating a programme of events in the city centre to ensure a 100% sporting and Olympic experience, with events for all ages and broadcasts of the competitions taking place in Paris, as it is wont to do for all the major events we host.
