Eugène Ionesco's "The Lesson" is, of course, an absurd, offbeat story, devoid of meaning (we think!) that we have to search for ourselves. And yet, the writing is full of gems of staging, acting, and interpretation.
An old professor welcomes a young student into his home to teach her mathematics, philosophy and neo-Spanish languages. Over time, the lesson becomes more and more complex, more and more disturbing and will completely shake up the bonds that unite the two characters. In a giant set, a universe at once dark, burlesque and strange and an aesthetic inspired by the works of Tim Burton, the famous absurd play by Eugène Ionesco staged by the Compagnie L'Emergence won over the jury for its original staging and the quality of the actors' performances, this show was distinguished as the Audience's Favorite.
