Le mariage forcé

Theatre

From 13 to 15 November 2025

After Dom Juan in 2023 and Les Serge in 2025, the TNN returns to the Comédie-Française Troupe with this jubilant farce by Molière, audaciously revisited by Louis Arene.

Sganarelle, a naive old bourgeois, decides to marry Dorimène, convinced he has found the ideal wife. Quickly disconcerted by the libertarian discourse of the woman he believed he dominated, he hastily and in vain consults philosophers, gypsies, and magicians to seek reassurance about his nuptials, which are to be celebrated that very evening. Realizing he has been duped, he wishes to annul the union. Dissuaded by her brother's challenge to a duel, Sganarelle ultimately agrees to the marriage, despite his certainty that it will make him unhappy.

In this Forced Marriage, performed in masked costumes, the five actors resonate with Molière's genius with insolence, humor, and monstrosity. This farce, with its furiously modern feminist character, subverts the codes of a patriarchal society by painting the portrait of a predatory young bride, determined to put an end to male domination. An ode to female emancipation, written by Molière over four centuries ago.
