This is the story of a family crossing the Mediterranean in the late 1950s to work in "the Metropolis." It all begins with a father, a bolter in a Renault factory, who one day gets a full squirt of engine oil in his face.
"Bonus!", as a reward, the family can leave their cellar to move into a beautiful four-room council apartment... In this apartment "where you never stop getting lost because there is so much space", in the kitchen of this illiterate woman, in the bedroom of this devoted father, Aïni Iften discovers traditional Kabyle tales. She transmits to us all their mystery, their humor and their poetry, thus reviving the exile of her parents, their disappointed hopes, their modest pain in the suburbs of her childhood.
