With it's location in the heart of the Old Town, this establishment offers temporary monographic or thematic exhibitions which present all the trends from old photography to the digital image.
After 16 years spent in the walls of the Artistique, Boulevard Dubouchage, the Théâtre de la Photographie et de l'Image moved to Place Pierre Gautier, in a former electricity substation, and became in 2016 the Charles Nègre Museum of Photography.
It has an adjoining gallery devoted to regional photographic creation.
The Préfecture substation, which was commissioned in the 1930s to supply the district with electricity, transformed high voltage alternating current into low voltage direct current. The industrial character of the architecture and an old overhead crane remain from this period.
